I am running Windows 7 64-bit with 8GB RAM and Intel Core i7 inside. After recently trying WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe (latest version), the converter always gets stuck when I do batch conversions.

I give the program around 50 videos in MKV, AVI, WMV to convert to MP4 (each video is 30 minutes in length) using the batch converting feature. The program starts converting just fine but the memory usage goes up and up as time goes on. Eventually, after approximately 24 videos, the memory usage of the program hits 3.6GB (and rising) and then the program stops encoding. There are no error messages, no windows pop up, the program doesn’t crash or anything like that – the program remains on-screen but the progress bar stops rising any higher (and the file size of the video in progress stops getting any bigger).

As you can see in the screenshot, the progress bar is completely stuck, it doesn’t move. The Stop button does nothing at all when clicked. Clicking the window close button does nothing. All I can do now is force close the program with Task Manager and start a new batch of conversions starting with the video that it’s currently stuck on.

It does this every time I convert a batch of videos from 60FPS MKV or AVI to MP4. The memory usage increases while the program is running, when it hits 3.6GB the progress bar gets stuck and it negatively affects my other programs because of the memory usage cap being hit.

When this happens, if I click Stop or try to close the program, nothing happens (no error messages or windows pop up). So I go into Task Manager, see the program is using around 3.6GB of memory then forcefully close it. After that, I delete the last file it tried to encode and tell it to convert all the videos again starting from the video where the program stopped working.

This issue is easily repeatable just by giving the program a lot of videos to convert in one go so that the memory usage rises up to 3.6GB.

Quick Solutions on WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe Getting Stuck while Batch Converting

I imagine that the problem could be that the program is only 32-bit so it stops working when memory usage hits 3.6GB. The best solution would be to recode the program and release a 64-bit native version so that it releases the memory when the current video has finished encoding.

This is how it should work:

  1. Create batch job by adding videos to be encoded.
  2. Start encoder.
  3. After each video has finished encoding, release the memory for that video. You could even have the finished video removed from the batch job listing because once the encoding has finished, it’s done so no need to re-encode.
  4. Doing it this way, the memory footprint should remain low and the issue with the memory cap of 3.6GB will never arise.

However there does not seem to be any updates on this when I come across this issues in the past two month. So the possible solution to WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe being stuck in batch converting is to limit the videos. As far as I can see, 20 videos are safe to batch convert.
