It’s really a pity that MPC-HC is no longer officially developed. Luckily, we can still get beta releases from third-parties. And, I’d like to recommend VideoHelp:
You can also try MPC-BE, aka, Media Player Classic – BE, it’s based on MPC and MPC-HC. It looks and works almost the same.
MPC-HC is recommended by one of my friends and I soon made it my default player for all my media files as it is extremely light-weight allowing you to watch movies on any SSE CPU and always pursue extreme simplification and practicability.
The full name of MPC-HC is Media Player Classic – Home Cinema and it is based on the classic media player called Media Player Classic. It imitates Windows Media Player 6.4, however, it is far more powerful than any version of Windows Media Player. It runs any almost all versions of the Windows operating system: Windows® XP Service Pack 3, Vista, 7, and 8, both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64). It starts up very quickly and takes only about 8 MB RAM and supports almost all popular media players including AVI, MP4, WMV, MOV, MKV, M2TS, AVCHD. Those who are interested in efficiency or those whose computer is old-fashioned with low hardware level must give it a go.
Simple but Efficient Media Player
MPC-HC now looks outdated since it is also based on Windows Media Player 6.4 which was released along with Windows 98 over 10 years ago. But, as the name suggests, it can be your first choice of your home cinema. It keeps all the advantages of MPC, fixed bugs and upgraded a lot!
MPC-HC is fully compatible with Windows 8.1 and I have tested it on Windows 10 and it works flawlessly too! It supports both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 as well as Windows 10. It has been translated in over 35 languages. It auto-detects your language. Just make sure it is your language when installing. But you are always free to set language via View–>Options–>Player–>Language.
MPC-HC player does a great job on “old” computers with fewer RAM taken and CPU used.
Still looking around for a simple but efficient media player for all codec and formats? MPC-HC is your top choice!
