Leawo Blu-ray Ripper Review-Best to Rip and Backup (1080P & 4K) Blu-rays and DVDs on PC and Mac

I recently wanted to go on a vacation and watch Blu-ray and DVD movies on the airplane during the long flight. I always rip and back up the Blu-ray or DVD movies to MP4 or MKV onto my hard drive so I can watch them offline and I don’t have to take the collections along with me. I know these sound a little bit outdated, and people would love to watch movies on Netflix. However, I don’t think that Netflix has everything, and Redbox does not have everything, either. Or sometimes, you just want to buy a Blu-ray or DVD movie, and you may already have one or a collection. Here’s what I find the best solution to back up your Blu-ray DVD collections, prevent them from being scratched, and watch them again anytime, anywhere you like: find a Blu-ray or DVD Ripper and get all your Blu-ray or DVD collections backed up.

In this post, you will see my Leawo Blu-ray Ripper review, and I will list why I’d like to recommend it to all of you. I will share my tips for Blu-ray DVD ripping with Leawo Blu-ray Ripper.

What can Leawo Blu-ray Ripper do for you? Is it the best Blu-ray Ripper software?

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper is a function module of Leawo Prof. Media that is available on both PC and Mac. It works as a Blu-ray and a DVD Ripper. And it rips all kinds of protected Blu-rays and DVDs to different video formats like MP4, AVI, MOV, and MKV, and it supports various types of devices from Apple, Samsung, Sony, etc., with which you can watch your Blu-ray and DVD copies anywhere without any region or limitations.

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper builds high-quality profiles to meet your needs for Blu-ray and DVD ripping, and it offers flexible editing such as cropping, trimming, and 3D Blu-ray DVD Ripping.

If you are running Windows, Leawo can rip your Blu-ray and DVD faster with the support hardware acceleration for H.264, H.265, etc., by different Intel and Nvidia GPUs.

PC Common Profiles

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper, in my option, is one of the best Blu-ray and DVD rippers in the market and worth trying. You will see the detailed Leawo Blu-ray Ripper review as follows.

Besides, Leawo Blu-ray Ripper also supports 4K Blu-ray ripping and is free while in beta.

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper Review: Download, Install, and Trial Limitations

Before we get started to rip and back up Blu-rays and DVDs, you will always have to download and install the Blu-ray Ripper. Please note Leawo Blu-Ray Ripper is a function module of Leawo’s all-in-one media solution called Leawo Prof. Media. But no worry, it can be activated desperately.

You can follow the below buttons to download a free copy of Leawo Blu-ray Ripper.

I already have it downloaded and installed, but I still want to show you how to download and install it. If you are running a Windows machine, make sure to allow Leawo Prof. Media Setup to make changes to your PC:

install leawo allow change

You will then see the below installation window, make sure you read through the legal agreement, and check to Agree to accept it before you can continue installing.

install leawo license agreement

Feel free to create a Desktop icon or quick launch icon or remove them as you like. Also, you can change the directory to install by clicking the three dots. Generally, I’d always like to leave the default and click Install. As you can see, the installation process is pretty simple.

Well, installing Leawo Blu-ray Ripper on macOS is as easy as we do on a PC. After downloading, double-click the DMG file to mount. And double-click install.app and follow the below steps to install:

Install Leawo Prof Media Mac

After the installation is complete, go ahead and click Finish. Leawo Prof. Media will automatically be started up, bringing up the website just to let you know the installation was successful and give you a professional guide on how to use the program.

Compatible OS and Hardware Requirements

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper is compatible with the latest Windows and macOS. You can run the program on a 1GHz CPU. 512 MB of RAM or above is required. You can see the details below:

Rip Blu-ray DVD to MP4/MKV/iPhone/iPad/Android

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper offers rich profiles to meet the different needs of different people. Do you want to back up the whole Blu-ray or DVDs to MP4? No problem, you want to do a lossless copy to MKV as MakeMKV does? Easy! Do you want to extract the background music of your Blu-ray DVD to MP3 or even lossless Flac? That’s just a piece of cake! You can rip your Blu-ray and DVD collections to common videos like MP4, AVI, MKV, MOV, FLV/F4V, WMV, etc. You can upscale your Blu-ray and DVD to HD videos up to 4K. Common audios like MP3, AAC, OGG, FLAC, etc., are well supported by Leawo as well. And, Leawo supports different devices for you to rip Blu-ray and DVDs directly to different types of iPhones and various machines from Sony, Samsung, etc. You are able to change the profile after the Blu-ray or DVD is loaded by clicking the default MP4 Video here:

change profile

Besides, it is pretty easy for us to locate your desired profile by searching.

One more thing, Leawo Blu-ray Ripper can convert Blu-ray to MKV losslessly.

Custom Profiles

In Leawo Blu-ray Ripper, we are able to freely change what kind of output video we need by changing the video codec, bit rate, resolution, frame rate, and aspect ratio. Audio codec, sample rate, bit rate, and channels are also adjustable. And you can save your preferred parameters as your own profile. Just give it a name here and click “Save to Custom.” Next time, you will be able to find your profile in the Custom tab in profiles.

If you are new to Blu-ray and DVD ripping and puzzled by such a ton of different options here, I myself, however, would like to recommend the default settings for regular users, especially the smart match option in video bit rate, which keeps the output video reasonably small. Still, the video quality is good as well. Or, you can simply go ahead and select the best setting if you don’t care much about the file size but the video quality.

Leawo: The 4K UHD Blu-ray Ripper

Nowadays, 4K Blu-ray is becoming increasingly popular, and people are more eager to purchase 4K Blu-ray discs than the standard ones. Nevertheless, 4K Blu-ray is secured by AACS 2.0. It requires a more powerful 4K Blu-ray Ripper to decrypt it. Thanks to Leawo UHD Blu-ray Ripper software, you can now take complete control of 4K Blu-ray movies, decrypt, rip, and convert them to MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV, iPad, iPhone, PS4, etc.

To rip 4K UHD Blu-ray with Leawo, make sure you have the latest version of Leawo Prof. Media 11.

Faster Blu-ray DVD Ripping with Hardware Acceleration

There are quite a few key factors that are determinative in Blu-ray and DVD ripping, such as the Blu-ray and DVD drive read speed. Generally, Blu-ray ripping takes longer than DVD ripping as Blu-ray discs are in HD 1080P quality. Leawo, I think, does an excellent job of speeding up the ripping process by all kinds of means that are technologically possible.

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper takes full use of the Hyper-threading and multi-core CPU processing tech to speed the ripping. And Leawo makes it even faster with hardware acceleration support, and it supports NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs. Leawo says the ripping can be 6X more quickly. From what I tested with the low-end Intel Graphics 620 during the review for Leawo Blu-ray Ripper, I can rip a 90-minute DVD to MP4 H.264 in about 22 minutes. If you have a more powerful GPU, it must take less time.

You can enable the GPU acceleration here Settings-Performance:

And, you can see if the GPU accelerating is supported like this in Profiles.

Edit your Blu-ray and DVD with Trim, Crop, 3D

With Leawo Blu-ray Ripper, you have complete control of your Blu-ray and DVD videos. You can crop, trim, watermark, and add effects to your videos, and you can even rip and convert 2D Blu-ray DVDs to 3D MP4, MKV, etc.

Those edit functions seem basic but practical, and they work as expected. You can trim your Blu-ray and DVD in milliseconds and add both text and image watermarks to brand your videos as well. The 3D option impresses me. I like the side-by-side 3D mode, as smart TVs and VR headsets widely accept it. You can even set the 3D depth from -50 to +50. If you plan to rip 2D Blu-ray and 2D DVD to 3D MP4, 3D MKV, etc, don’t miss the 3D options in Edit.

How to Rip Blu-ray with Leawo Blu-ray Ripper

Leawo Blu-ray Ripper/DVD is believed to be one of the best Blu-ray rippers for one of the reasons that it is very easy to use. Along with my Leawo Blu-ray Ripper review, I’d like to show you a detailed guide on how to use Leawo Blu-ray Ripper to rip Blu-ray and DVDs on both PC and Mac as they work the same.

Please follow the above guide to download and install a free trial of the program and launch it to get ready. Insert your Blu-ray disc into your Blu-ray drive.

Step 1. Load Blu-ray

Click the Blu-ray Ripper on the main screen or the Convert button on top. And load the Blu-ray or DVD discs from “Add Blu-ray/DVD”->”Add from CD-ROM.”

You will be presented to confirm the Full or Main Movie mode. We recommend Main Movie mode with the main title. Click OK to confirm.

Step 2. Profile for Blu-ray Ripping

MP4 Video or your last used profile is the default for ripping Blu-ray or DVD with Leawo. Click MP4 Video to change or edit the profile you prefer:

Step 3. Rip Bluray DVD

Hit the Convert button to start ripping Blu-ray or DVD discs to MP4 or other video formats you like.

Full, Main or Custom Mode

In step 1, after the Blu-ray or DVD is loaded, you will be presented the below window to choose the Full, Main, or Custom Mode. So, which one should we use?

If you are NOT sure, you can leave the default Main Movie and hit OK to continue. But here are the difference:

  • Full Movie:

It contains the whole movie on the disc, including the main movie content, ads, credits, special features, and all. However, I don’t recommend Full Movie mode for protected Blu-ray or DVDs. You see, a couple of titles come with the same length. Ripping Blu-ray or DVD with a Full Movie will give you a lot of files of the same length. However, a Blu-ray or DVD cannot be hours long, and you don’t need your copies twice or more. That’s a waste of time.

  • Main Movie:

It rips the main content of the Blu-ray and DVDs. Thus, it is recommended and the default for ripping. I recommend Main Movie mode for movie Blu-rays and DVDs.

  • Custom Mode

Custom mode is for advanced users who know what each title is about. I recommend Custom mode for TV shows as most episodes are divided into separate titles.

Pricing

There are two plans for Leawo Blu-ray Ripper. The price for the PC version and Mac version are the same:

  • $44.95: 1-Year Plan
  • $99.95: Lifetime Plan

Please note it takes $20 for a one-year renewal.

Revewal Price

The good news is that I have a 25% discount for you, and it’s available for both one-year and lifetime subscriptions.

Summary

You will see from the above Leawo Blu-ray Ripper review that it is worth your trying or having the full version as I can rip all my Blu-rays and DVDs. It does not matter if the Blu-ray discs are AACS or BD+ protected or DVDs are region locked or CSS or Sony ARccOS protected. It takes well care of all those and gives you a high-quality video so that you can enjoy it anywhere, anytime.

After reading Leawo Blu-ray Ripper’s review, I hope you can give it a try, and I do believe Leawo won’t let you down. If you are satisfied, I recommend the lifetime subscription.
