How to Convert MKV to Final Cut Pro ProRes 422 for Editing

It is known to most of us that after Jobs left Apple, he founded NeXT, a company that focused on multimedia processing. The company was later acquired by Apple and the techniques were integrated into macOS, making it inherently more avid for video editing and film post-production. iMovie and Final Cut Pro were launched by Apple. They beat AVID to be the most popular. One of the best video editing applications and Prores 422 is the featured encoding that makes HD editing possible even in MacBook Air instead of the powerful workstations.

In my previous post, I explained in detail how to rip DVD to Final Cut Pro in ProRes 422, 422 HD, etc for FCP 7 or FCP X with Wondershare UniConverter, which is originally called Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate. Actually, as the all-in-one solution for video converting, YouTube downloading, DVD ripping and burning, iOS/Android video transferring, Wondershare UniConverter can also convert MKV to Final Cut Pro 7 and FCP X compatible ProRes 422 and ProRes 4444.

Convert MKV to FCP (Final Cut Pro) for Editing

In this post, I will give a step-by-step guide on how to convert MKV to Final Cut Pro, which is often short for FCP, ProRes 422, etc for editing.

Please follow the below button to download and install the MKV to FCP converter.

Step 1. Load MKV

With Wondershare UniConverter, you are able to load MKV directly from your hard drive by clicking the Add Files button. Click the drop-down menu to do load videos from Android devices or camcorders! Surely, you can load World Cup videos from your HDD or external drive.

Step 2. ProRes Profile for FCP(Final Cut Pro)

MP4 Video or your previously used profile will be the default output profile before you convert MKV to Final Cut Pro. In order to convert MKV to FCP for editing, you will have to for Editing tap of the drop-down menu of “Convert all tasks to”, and choose or edit a profile you need.

As you can see, Wondershare builds in profiles for FCP 7 and FPC X for converting MKV files. And there are separated profiles for ProRes 422, ProRes HQ, ProRes LT, ProRes 4444, iMovie, and iDVD.

You can edit the profile for FCP X or FCP 7 before converting MKV to FCP and save the profile as your own. Feel free to custom the frame rate to 60 FPS, set video resolution, video encoder, etc as you like. If you want to try a 120FPS video converter, click to learn how.

Step 3. Convert MKV to FCP

When you are ready, click the Convert button or Convert All button to start the MKV to Final Cut Pro X/FCP 7 conversion.

MKV to Final Cut Pro Conversion Tips

To increase the speed of MKV to FCP converting by up to 200% as I do in MKV to MP4, I suggest you guys turn on the High-Speed Conversion mode as shown below:

Besides, ProRes is removed from the Windows version of Wondershare UniConverter, “since it is a sensitive output format from Apple”, as is explained by the Wondershare Support Team.

You can try the pro version named Wondershare Video Converter Pro to convert World Cup videos to ProRes 422 including Proxy, HD, LT, and ProRes 4444 on Windows. You can download the pro version here:

The difference between the pro and ultimate version (Wondershare UniConverter) is that the pro version does not support DVD ripping.

If you already purchase the ultimate version and still want to convert MKV to FCP, you can contact the support team and they are glad to apply a new code for you.

Final Cut Pro Alternative for Windows 10

I know it is a great experience to edit videos with Final Cut Pro 7 or Final Cut Pro X on macOS. However, when it comes to video editing on PC, there don’t seem to be qualified programs as the best FCP alternative. But today, I’d like you guys to try another program from Wondershare and it is Wondershare Filmora, previously been called Wondershare Video Editor.

To me, it is so far the best video editing software with a nice UI and over 1000 elements for those who are not that professional to make professional videos on either PC or Mac. I have been using it to edit 4K videos, watermark my recordings and make slideshows from photos, or burn photo slideshow. And, you can have a trial to see how it works for you.

And there comes the question, which do you think is better, Final Cut Pro or Filmora?
