Burn Any Video like MP4, WMV, AVI, VOB, MKV, ISO to Playable DVD on PC and Mac

In one of my previous posts, I introduced 4 ways to fully backup your videos, recordings, and photos and I have promised to have a detailed guide on how to backup and burn MP4, WMV, AVI, MKV, or ISO videos to DVD. My reason for burning videos, recordings or even photos to a Bluray or DVD disc as a backup is quite simple: data on discs can be kept much longer than on hard drives. You can also create playable DVDs from any video for sharing with your families and friends.

Today I want to recommend three DVD creators and how to burn videos to DVD and a free way to create data DVDs from videos and photos.

[FREE]Burn Videos/Photos to DVD as data (Mac)

Please note this way you are able to play the burned DVD on your Mac with QuickTime or other players, but you are NOT able to play on DVD players.

macOS offers a free way to burn videos, photos, PDFs, applications, almost anything to the blank disc and it is easy to go! If you want to burn MP4, AVI, WMV, or MKV videos to DVD, you just have to right-click on your files or folder and choose to Burn as shown below:

Top DVD Creators for PC/Mac

Although Finder is able to burn DVDs for us, it is not actually the way I want MP4, AVI, WMV, or MKV videos too. When I burn DVDs, I need them to be playable on DVD or Bluray players.

In this post, I’d like to recommend three DVD creators that are available for both PC and MAC to burn MKV, AVI, WMV, MPEG as well as other kinds of videos to DVD.

DVDFab DVD Creator

DVDFab DVD Creator is a function module of DVDFab 11. It can be used and purchased independently. It supports different kinds of videos like AVCHD, MP4, AVI, WMV, MKV, etc, and burns them to DVD discs, ISO, or VIDEO_TS folder on the hard drive.

With professional built-in templates, you can create and burn DVDs with a customized menu. You can set every single element and widget in the templates, and you even set audio and subtitles tracks in the menu!

DVDFab supports all kinds of target discs to burn DVDs, including DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R DL, and DVD-R DL. The burning process is fast with multi-threading, multi-core, and GPU acceleration supported.

Leawo DVD Creator

Leawo DVD Creator is just what I am looking for. Leawo develops its whole multimedia solution as Leawo Prof. Media, the total video converter that is able to rip, copy and burn Bluray and DVDs, convert videos, and download YouTube. Leawo Bluray Creator and Leawo DVD Creator are two function modules and be activated separately. Leawo Prof. Media works on the latest operating system from both Microsoft and Apple, including Windows 10, 8/8.1, Windows 7, and macOS Catalina, Big Sur, etc. While Leawo DVD Creator only supports DVD burning, Leawo Bluray Creator supports both DVD and Bluray. As Leawo builds all functions together, it is exactly the same on how to burn videos on both PC and Mac. Besides, Leawo can burn photos to DVD as well! It actually makes a photo slideshow first and then burns to DVD. You can check out my detailed guide if you are interested.

Burn MKV AVI MP4 to Playable DVD(PC & Mac)

Below is my step-by-step guide on how you are using Leawo DVD creator to create playable DVDs from any videos like MP4, AVI, MKV, MPEG, etc! And, it supports photos!

Please note, Leawo’s Mac and Windows version of Leawo Prof. Media look almost the same, so the below guide applies to both PC and Mac users even screenshots are made on Mac. Also, burning videos or photos to Blu-ray is the same as DVDs, but you need to go for Leawo Blu-ray Creator. Just make sure the output is all right.

Step 1. Bluray/DVD Creator

After Leawo Prof. Media is launched, click Bluray Creator or DVD Creator as you need. Or, simply, just to go Burn tab on top.

Step 2. Add Video/Photo

Click Add videos to add AVI, MPEG, VOB, MKV videos, or recordings, and click Add Photo to add photos. You are able to burn videos and photos to DVD TOGETHER.

Please note Leawo will automatically create a photo slideshow from photos and burn the slideshow to DVD as you request.

Tips, move your mouse over to the photos you add and click the Edit button. And here you are able to set the photo and transition duration and effect and add a music file to the photo slideshow before burning.

Step 3. Select DVD 9 or DVD5

DVD5 comes as the default option for burning photos, videos, and recordings. You will have an estimation of how large your disc would be which helps you decide how many videos/photos or recordings you can add to the disc. If you want to burn videos and photos to Blu-ray, make sure to go to the drop-down menu and choose Bluray 25 or 50. You can also burn Bluray as 720P.

Step 4. Template[Optional]

Click the built-in or download the online templates and double click to Edit.

Step 4. Burn Video/Photo to DVD

Click the Burn button to burn videos and/or photos. You are able to create a VIDEO_TS folder or ISO file of your videos or photos as well. Give a name to the Disc_label so you will know what the disc is about.

Burn DVD to DVD

Leawo DVD Copy can do a DVD to DVD backup. However, if you only have Leawo DVD Ripper and Leawo Creator, you can still use the two programs together to do a DVD to DVD backup.

What you have to do is firstly rip DVDs to whatever video format it supports including AVI, MKV, MP4, MPG, MPEG, FLV, 3GP, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB, etc and then burn with this DVD burning program.

Well, actually the best format I recommend is ISO. You are supposed to keep everything in its original, however, since ISO is always 1:1 backup, you will have to use a DVD 9 blank DVD to burn if your original DVD is DVD 9. For other compressed video formats like MP4, MKV, MPEG, etc, you are free to burn it to a DVD 5 even your original one is DVD 9. You are able to compress an 8.5 GB DVD 9 to a 2 GB MP4 with original resolution.
